Leadership by Warren Buffett?
You thought Warren Buffett was just an Investor?
What can the world’s greatest investor teach us about leadership?
You may be thinking, “That’s right, Warren Buffett runs the investment firm Berskshire-Hathaway. Since he runs a company maybe he has something to say about leadership.”
If that is what you’re thinking, I like where your head is at.
But, no. That’s not what I’m getting at.
Let’s look at his trading/ investing strategy.
Did he make all of his money overnight and with an incredible stock choice no one saw coming?
No, he got all of his money slowly, over time, by letting his investments compound.
That is what we can learn about leadership from Warren Buffett.
We all are starting somewhere with our leadership ability and it is true that we can improve our leadership ability.
So if we commit to improving our leadership ability every day, whether by reading a book, getting some coaching, attending a conference, etc., we can dramatically improve our leadership ability over time. Even if we’re starting off really bad.
When we invest in our skills the effects are compounding.
The Japanese have a term called, Kaizen.
Businesses often use this concept. (If you’re a Six Sigma Green Belt you know)
Kaizen focuses on incremental continuous improvement.
If you focus on getting 1% better every day, pretty soon you will be unrecognizable from when you started.
p.s. great leaders invest in the improvement of their team as well.
